TRANSFER UPDATE : Griezzmann to join Barcelona FC on a "special" condition

The Atletico Madrid ace has moved to the top of Barcelona's wishlist as they eye more firepower next summer

Antoine Griezmann has moved to the top of Barcelona's wishlist - but the French ace has no interest in joining the club to play second fiddle.

Barcelona have launched what has been dubbed 'Operation Griezmann', as Ernesto Valverde seeks to freshen up his attack.

The Basque coach has led Barcelona to the top of La Liga, where they solidified their place at the weekend following a 2-1 win over Sevilla at Camp Nou.

That has come in spite of Luis Suarez's goal drought, with the Uruguayan having now gone 451 minutes in the league without a goal - his worst run since arriving from Liverpool in 2014.

Suarez turns 31 in January, and suggestions in Spain are that Valverde and Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu will look to phase out the striker - who has scored just three times this term - despite his contract running until 2021 and his friendship with Lionel Messi.

The club have earmarked Griezmann, the Atletico Madrid striker, has the No.1 choice to replace him.

However, the 26-year-old remains eager to move on next summer as he seeks a move to one of Europe's elite - despite his own disappointing start to the current campaign. Griezmann has continued to be linked with United, as well as Real Madrid.

But Valverde - criticised in some quarters for 'defensive' football - wants to add him to his attack, while Bartomeu believes the player's €100million buyout clause makes him a bargain in the current market.

According to Diario Gol, Griezmann is interested in a switch to Catalunya, provided he is FIRST CHOICE
