NEWS: Jesse Lingered too long as referee Anthony Taylor, 39, runs faster than him to close down a Chelsea attack

Jesse Lingard has been ridiculed on social media for failing to outrun Anthony Taylor during Manchester United's 1-0 defeat to Chelsea.

The Red Devils winger, who only came on in the 78th minute, was spotted tracking back as the Blues mounted a counter-attack late into the second half.

William stormed into the Chelsea half, running past a near-motionless Lingard before finding Alvaro Morata in the area.

Referee Taylor was seen keeping up with the Brazilian as he left the Manchester United winger for dust in the middle of the pitch.

To be very honest, that was totally uncalled for as If the referee wanted to be signed by Manchester United, he should have signified rather than disgrace a young player. Afterall, that's why he's the referee.
