Alvaro Morata scored the second half winner to earn Chelsea a deserved win against Manchester United.
Morata showed United what they missed out on when he headed in Cesar Azpilicueta's cross to earn Chelsea all three points.
United appeared set to sign Morata from Real Madrid in the summer before opting for Romelu Lukaku.
Instead it was Chelsea who signed Morata and his first goal in seven appearances was the decider at Stamford Bridge.
This second defeat of the season left United eight points behind leaders Manchester City, while Chelsea stayed fourth but are now just one point behind second-placed United.

The tone for an at times end-to-end clash was set in the first ten minutes when Phil Jones was lucky to have an own goal chalked off before Marcus Rashford headed a over from close range.
Tiemoue Bakayoko also went close twice for Chelsea before half time.
The Blues took total control after the break as United sat back and were rewarded when Morata climbed highest to head in Cesar Azpilicueta's 55 minute cross as the Spanish pair linked up for the fifth time for a Chelsea goal this season.
United pushed for an equaliser late on but Thibaut Courtois kept out a thumping effort from sub Marouane Fellaini before Marcus Rashford saw his free-kick deflected just over.
